Dogs who are located in the South

Stevie

Sex: Female  •   Located in: Florida   •   Age: Adult

*Stevie is being fostered in Tampa, FL.*

Meet Stevie!  Stevie is a sweet 3 year-old chocolate and white female Rat Terrier who weighs in at 12 pounds.  She is being fostered in Tampa, Florida.  Stevie doesn’t mind having other dogs around, but chooses not to interact or play with them.  She is a refined lady!  What Stevie really needs is a home of her very own, after being rescued from a high kill shelter.  She was actually adopted from the shelter, but a year later came back to rescue because her family had to relocate. So this pretty girl has lost her home and family twice.  Despite being moved around, we think she would do well in any type of living environment.  She is very laid back, docile and quiet, and wouldn’t mind spending her days on the couch or in her owner’s lap.  She loves to be around people, and adores children. She would make a great companion to someone living alone, who has a laid back lifestyle and wants a loving companion.  Stevie doesn’t like too much activity around her, she doesn’t like too many people around her at once in the home. She enjoys going for little walks and meeting new people.  She is very shy at first but warms up. She is not interested in playing with toys, chasing small animals, or running around.  If you would like a laid-back little dog to follow you and be a great companion, Stevie is the dog for you.  For photos of Stevie in her foster home, check her photo album here

Penny Lane

Sex: Female  •   Located in: Arkansas   •   Age: Young

*Penny Lane is being fostered in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.*

Penny Lane is about a year old, maybe younger.  She was dumped, along with her pup, at a farm supply store in rural area.  Luckily, a friend of ours named Betty, who is involved in rescue, saw them and began feeding them.  Soon afterwards, she was able to catch them both and asked for help from ResQ.  Penny’s pup was safe with Betty, and we were asked us to help place Penny Lane in a wonderful home.  Penny is 13 pounds, and has a curl in her tail that makes her very cute!  She is mainly white and black, with brindle patches on the sides of her sweet face.  She has a full tail and button ears that sometimes turn out.  She is doing extremely well with her housetraining, and has already learned the doggie door in her foster home.  She sleeps in her crate at night without a peep, and gets up in the morning ready to play!  She plays with the other young dogs in her foster home, and seems to like everyone she meets, after about 5 minutes of investigation.  She is learning to walk on a leash, so that she will be ready for her new family.  If you need a sweetheart to give you plenty of rattie kisses, let Penny Lane know, so she can pack her bags to go home!

Dixie Belle

Sex: Female  •   Located in: Arkansas   •   Age: Young

*Dixie Belle is being fostered in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.*

Just like any well-bred Southern girl, Dixie Belle has two names!  Dixie Belle is a sweet 10-month pup who somehow found her way into the shelter in Cabot, Arkansas.  The volunteers there worked hard to get her into rescue because of her wonderful temperament.  She seems to love everyone.  Dixie weighs about 14 pounds, and should probably be 16 when healthy.  (she’s a bit skinny right now)  Dixie Belle has already learned the doggie door in her foster home and is doing great with her housetraining.  She is crate trained and sleeps willingly in a crate at night.  Her favorite thing is stuffed animal toys!  She loves to play with the other young dogs in her foster home, and we think she would be fine with children.  She is self-confident and not at all shy or skittish.  Dixie Belle has beautiful, long legs, and she can run like the wind!  She loves to snuggle into a pile of warm laundry and take a snooze.  The best home for her would have a fenced-in backyard so she could run and play.  Dixie is very smart, and watches her foster mom all the time, wanting badly to please her.  She also likes her foster dad and greets visitors with a wagging tail.  For more photos of this pretty girl in her foster home, check her album often:

Malaya

Sex: Female  •   Located in: North Carolina   •   Age: Young

*Malaya is being fostered in Winston-Salem, NC.*

Meet Malaya!  Malaya is a precious little 11-pound Rat Terrier that melted many volunteers’ hearts when they first saw her photos and the plea for help from a shelter in Rosenberg, Texas.  ResQ immediately sprang into action to get her to safety.  She did not have much time at the high kill shelter and we had to work quickly to get her out.  An angel of a volunteer from Katy, Texas stepped up and pulled her out of the shelter for ResQ and then took her to the vet for a once-over and vaccinations.  Four days later she put Malaya on a plane from Houston, Texas, to Raleigh, North Carolina. We cannot thank our Texas angel enough!  There she was greeted by her new foster Mom and driven to Winston-Salem where she is currently being fostered.. That night Malaya got to meet her foster family of four other Rat Terriers, a Golden Retriever, 3 children and Mom and Dad . Tired from travel and a bit scared at first, Malaya sniffed her new surroundings and then started bouncing around. Her personality is super sweet and loving. This little girl would be so happy to have her forever home where she could receive lots of love and attention.  She is only about 10 months old, and just as cute as they come!  She is busy learning the routine of her foster home and the skills, like housetraining, that she will need to enjoy a new home of her own!  For more photos of this sweetie in her foster home, check her album often:

Lefty

Sex: Male  •   Located in: Tennessee   •   Age: Adult

*Lefty is being fostered in Portland, Tennessee.*

Lefty

Lefty is a tall standard rat terrier, weighing about 26 pounds. It’s hard to imagine, but he was a very skinny 16 pounds when he was picked up as an emaciated and neglected stray.  The shelter volunteer nick-named him “Honeybun” because that’s what they had to use to catch him.  Despite all the hardships in his short life, Lefty still loves everyone.  He likes men and women equally, and thinks he is a 10-pound lap dog!  Lefty can be a bit head-strong at times, and really needs someone with a firm hand.  A terrier-wise family would be great, because he is a big guy!  He gets along with all of the dogs in his foster home unless he is challenged, and then he will stick up for himself.   Lefty wants to please his master, and obeys commands when given authoritatively.  He is very playful and usually gets along with all of the dogs in his foster home, even the smaller dogs.  He has very long legs and loves to chase squirrels and birds in the backyard of his foster home.  Because of his prey drive, he is not good with cats.  And because he is a big boy who loves to play, he would probably be better with children over 6.  His perfect home would have a fenced backyard so he could get plenty of exercise.  We don’t think he would be a good candidate for an apartment dog.  He is crate trained (sleeps willingly in a crate) and completely housebroken with a doggie door.  He is extremely loving and affectionate, and walks great on a leash.  He also likes to ride in the car!  There’s just nothing bad to say about this wonderful guy.  For more photos of Lefty in his foster home, check his album often: http://ImageEvent.com/coram/lefty

Jack Sparrow

Sex: Male  •   Located in: Texas   •   Age: Young

*Jack Sparrow is being fostered in Lewisville, TX.*

Introducing Jack Sparrow!  Jack Sparrow is about a year old, maybe a year and a half, and weighs around 10 pounds.  And just like any young dog, he is full of energy and loves to play!  He wakes up when the alarms go off and is ready to start his day playing.  He loves playing ball with his foster sister Darla, who is a former ResQ alumni.  Jack even liked going to the vet; it meant new people to play with!  The office staff reported that he just wanted to play, play, play, and they had a hard time watching him leave when his surgery was done.  Jack is housebroken, and is a pro at using the doggy door.  We haven’t tested him with children, but he greets visitors and new people with a friendly attitude and was not afraid of anyone, so he would probably be good with older children.  His favorite thing is his nightly massage, and he loves to be groomed with the Furminator.  Jack is very smart!  He has already learned the command of “come”, and is learning stay, sit and fetch.  Be sure and let us know if you want to make Jack a part of your family, so we can tell him to pack his bags!  This boy really deserves a home of his own, and a family who will play with him.  For more photos of this handsome young man (and videos) in his foster home, check his Image Event album here:

Hawk

Sex: Male  •   Located in: Texas   •   Age: Adult

*Hawk is being fostered in Garland, Texas.*

Hawk is about 4 years old, and is a handsome example of a rat terrier!  He is about 14″ at the shoulder and weighs about 18 pounds.  He’s very friendly and happily greets everyone he sees.   Hawk says riding in the car is fun, and his foster mom makes sure the window is down (and locked) 2 or 3 inches so he can smell the outside air.  He is good on a leash and and gets very excited when he sees his harness.  Hawk loves to sleep in the bed, either on top or underneath the covers, depending on the weather.  This smart guy is reliably housebroken and a doggie door champ!  Hawk is quite a talker — he grumbles and groans when he is settling down to a nap or shifting under the bedcovers at night.  ”Louie” is the name given to him by the shelter folks, but he responds to the name “Hawk.”  His foster mom thought he deserved a new name in his new life, which fits the Mohawk-like streak down the back of his neck.  Hawk likes his new name!  He has good manners, sitting quietly, waiting for his turn for treats or dinner.  He knows what a “hug” is, and will ask for one by sitting at your feet and pawing the air.  He will get onto his foster mom’s lap for short hugs, but is not a clinging vine.  He is an independent guy when it comes to the mushy stuff.  He loves to play and wrestle with his people, and has a soft mouth.  He minds well.  During a recent visit, Hawk enjoyed the grandkids (4, 7 and 9) for an afternoon of play.   He does play with other dogs, especially his rat terrier housemates.  This young man will make a fun and loving companion and an excellent watchdog.  Is he for you?  See more of Hawk in his foster home:   http://imageevent.com/ratterrierresq/louie
