Dogs who are located in the South
Gracie
Sex: Female • Located in: Florida • Age: Adult
*Gracie is being fostered in Babson Park, FL.*

ResQ would like to introduce Gracie! Gracie is a beautiful 6 year-old female Rat Terrier weighing about 17 lbs. She is crate trained, housebroken, and gets along with everyone including dogs, cats, and older children. Gracie was very quick to adapt to her foster home, and is very happy with her foster family, but she needs a home of her own. She is a sweet and extremely affectionate dog. Like most rat terriers, she is full of energy and loves to run around but is also content to sit in your lap and drown you in doggie kisses. Gracie could be the perfect addition to your family. Lefty
Sex: Male • Located in: Tennessee • Age: Adult
*Lefty is being fostered in Portland, Tennessee.*
Lefty is a tall standard rat terrier, weighing about 26 pounds. It’s hard to imagine, but he was a very skinny 16 pounds when he was picked up as an emaciated and neglected stray. The shelter volunteer nick-named him “Honeybun” because that’s what they had to use to catch him. Despite all the hardships in his short life, Lefty still loves everyone. He likes men and women equally, and thinks he is a 10-pound lap dog! Lefty can be a bit head-strong at times, and really needs someone with a firm hand. A terrier-wise family would be great, because he is a big guy! He gets along with all of the dogs in his foster home unless he is challenged, and then he will stick up for himself. Lefty wants to please his master, and obeys commands when given authoritatively. He is very playful and usually gets along with all of the dogs in his foster home, even the smaller dogs. He has very long legs and loves to chase squirrels and birds in the backyard of his foster home. Because of his prey drive, he is not good with cats. And because he is a big boy who loves to play, he would probably be better with children over 6. His perfect home would have a fenced backyard so he could get plenty of exercise. We don’t think he would be a good candidate for an apartment dog. He is crate trained (sleeps willingly in a crate) and completely housebroken with a doggie door. He is extremely loving and affectionate, and walks great on a leash. He also likes to ride in the car! There’s just nothing bad to say about this wonderful guy. Scooby
Sex: Male • Located in: North Carolina • Age: Young
*Scooby is being fostered in Winston-Salen, NC.*

Scooby is a handsome, young, lovable affectionate lap dog! He is 18 months old and 21 lbs. Scooby was dumped at a kill shelter in Cartersville, GA and Rat Terrier ResQ stepped in to save him. It took volunteers from Etowah Valley Humane Society, New Rattitude, and two pilots from Pilots N Paws to rescue and transport him to his new foster home in NC. There, he has settled in nicely with three other Rat Terriers, a Golden Retriever and a family with young children. They all get along very well together. Scooby is learning to walk on a leash, play with squeaky toys and follow simple commands. He loves to ride in a car with his foster family. Scooby is house trained and loves to follow his foster mom from room to room. He sleeps through the night in his crate, but prefers to cuddle on top of the covers. Do you have a place in your heart for this sweet brown-eyed loving little fellow? He’s sure to fill your home with cozy warmth and tons of puppy affection. View more Scooby pics. Click Here:

Scooter
Sex: Male • Located in: Arkansas • Age: Young
*Scooter is being fostered in Arkadelphia, AR.*

Say hello to Scooter! Scooter is about a year and a half old, and he’s quite small boned, about 13 inches at the shoulder and weighs about 15 pounds. Scooter has long legs, and is a rattie version of Bambi. He loves to give kisses – to any willing humans and his fellow rat terrier brothers and sister. Scooter LOVES to play and really needs a playmate to keep him happy. He plays nicely and does not get rough so he would not be a concern for smaller playmates. He loves to chew on rawhides, pork skin rolls, and especially Yak chews! If you provide him with plenty of chewies, he will be a happy boy! He is not a picky eater and will gently take snacks from hands. He does not like his crate and will let you know for the first 15 minutes of confinement. After that, he will quiet down and go to sleep. He is happiest when he gets to sleep in the doggie bed by the human bed; or at the foot of your bed, to keep your tootsies warm. He rides very nicely in the car. He is a little shy but will grow more confident quickly as he becomes used to a new person. He has not shown any aggression towards any humans or other animals. He is housebroken, and loves his doggie door. Due to his small size, he would be best handled and cared for by older children of 7 years or older. He had shown an interest in cats but not in an aggressive way – he’s probably trying to figure out if the cat wants or needs a couple of kisses! For more photos of Scooter, check his photo album:

Jack Sparrow
Sex: Male • Located in: Texas • Age: Young
*Jack Sparrow is being fostered in Lewisville, TX.*

Introducing Jack Sparrow! Jack Sparrow is about a year old, maybe a year and a half, and weighs around 10 pounds. And just like any young dog, he is full of energy and loves to play! He wakes up when the alarms go off and is ready to start his day playing. He loves playing ball with his foster sister Darla, who is a former ResQ alumni. Jack even liked going to the vet; it meant new people to play with! The office staff reported that he just wanted to play, play, play, and they had a hard time watching him leave when his surgery was done. Jack is housebroken, and is a pro at using the doggy door. We haven’t tested him with children, but he greets visitors and new people with a friendly attitude and was not afraid of anyone, so he would probably be good with older children. His favorite thing is his nightly massage, and he loves to be groomed with the Furminator. Jack is very smart! He has already learned the command of “come”, and is learning stay, sit and fetch. Be sure and let us know if you want to make Jack a part of your family, so we can tell him to pack his bags! This boy really deserves a home of his own, and a family who will play with him. Louie
Sex: Male • Located in: Texas • Age: Adult
*Louie is being fostered in Garland, Texas.*
Louie is about 4 years old, and is a very tall fellow (14″ at the shoulder) and weighs about 18 pounds. He’s very friendly and happily greets everyone he sees. Riding in the car is fun if the window is down (and locked) 2 or 3 inches so he can smell the outside air. He is good on a leash and and gets very excited when he sees his harness. Louie loves to sleep in the bed, either on top or underneath the covers, depending on the weather. Louie is housebroken and a doggie door champ! Louie is quite a talker — he grumbles and groans when he is settling down to a nap or shifting under the bedcovers at night. ”Louie” is the name given to him by the shelter folks, but he responds to the name “Hawk.” His foster mom thought he deserved a new name in his new life, which fits the Mohawk-like streak down the back of his neck. Louie has good manners, sitting quietly, waiting for his turn for treats or dinner. He knows what a “hug” is, and will ask for one by sitting at your feet and pawing the air. He will get onto his foster mom’s lap for short hugs, but then he is ready to get down. He loves to play and wrestle with his people, and has a soft mouth. He minds well. Louie (aka Hawk) enjoyed the grandkids (4, 7 and 9) for an afternoon of play. He does play with other dogs, especially his rat terrier housemates. This young man will make a fun and loving companion and an excellent watchdog. Is he for you? See more of Louie http://imageevent.com/ratterrierresq/louie
