An Arkansas-wide plea was posted to try to save this darling little girl in the Cabot shelter. She had a broken leg. A trip to the Cabot vet produced a very poor diagnosis, and the vet’s advice was to amputate the leg because the two bones wouldn’t line up. She has a complete break of both bones in her front leg, close to the paw where the bones are tiny. ResQ wasn’t ready to give up on her leg, so we had one of our vets look at her. He recommended splinting the leg and hoping for the best. But as evidenced from her x-ray, it wasn’t lined up well at all. We opted to send Noogie (also called “Bug,”) to our orthopedic specialist in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She underwent expensive surgery to plate the bones on February 12th. This little girl, about 5 years old, has always had a smile on her face and a wag in her tail. She loves everyone she meets, and the feeling is mutual. This is a very special little girl who deserves a chance at being whole again. Please see more photos of Noogie!
Additional sponsor information: Noogie underwent surgery to plate the bones on February 12th. Her total expenses for surgery are $1,500. But this little girl has always had a smile on her face and a wag in her tail. She loves everyone she meets, and the feeling is mutual. CongRATulations to the Carreno family!
Hi! My name is Gizmo. I’m 3 years old and I weigh 14 lbs. Before I became a Rat Terrier ResQ dog, I was a stray in Northeast Arkansas. I was injured on the street and spent 3 days under a tree in a pile of snow before a nice volunteer came to get me. Due to my injuries, I was not eligible for adoption. Another volunteer arranged for me to take a plane ride to Florida where my foster mom was waiting for me. I’m doing much better now and am recovering from my injuries. I hope to be ready for my own family soon. I’m a really good boy. I sleep in my crate without complaining. I’m house trained, and I get along with everyone, including cats, dogs, and kids. I’m also very vocal and will talk to you if you like, but I promise not to bark too much. Do you have room in your heart and home for me? If so please adopt me, I have my own leash and will travel. If you’re wondering about my life on the streets, I’ll tell you all about it. You can also see more pictures of me!
Additional sponsor information: Gizmo was picked up by shelter volunteers after someone called to report that there was a little dog lying a pile of snow, and he hadn't moved for 3 days. Volunteers thought for sure the dog must be dead, but he was alive and obviously injured. At first it was believed that one of his legs needed to be amputated. Upon further examination, it was determined that his leg was fine, but his pelvis was fractured. To add insult to injury, he was also diagnosed with heartworm disease. Gizmo was considered unadoptable and subject to euthanization unless a rescue group could save him. Rat Terrier ResQ had a place for him in Florida, but Gizmo was in Arkansas. Volunteers scrambled to get him on a flight to Florida where he is currently recovering from his pelvis fracture and starting treatment for heartworms. Gizmo's expenses are estimated at roughly $950.00. Any amount you can help with would be greatly appreciated by Gizmo who is very happy to be out of the snow and in the Sunshine State.

Hank is an adorable puppy, and is 8 weeks old as of 2/1/10. He was left on a doorstep in East Texas, and ResQ was contacted. Hank is a happy and healthy puppy, and has started his routine shots. He weighs 4.6 pounds at 8 weeks, and is extremely self-confident and bold! He does love to snuggle in your lap and give puppy kisses, though. He has short little legs, which means he is a Teddy Roosevelt Terrier (formerly called a Type B Rat Terrier). His ears are going up, but aren’t quite there yet. Hank is just a beautiful puppy. He is being happily spoiled by his foster mom, who is going to hate to see this little darlin’ go! Please see more photos of Hank and his brother, T.J.!
Additional sponsor information: T.J. and Hank and their two siblings came into rescue at six weeks old, after being left on a doorstep at a woman's house in Tyler, Texas. Their brother Tiger got sick immediately after arriving in their Arkansas foster home, and was diagnosed with Parvo. Medications were begun and given hourly in order to keep the other three pups alive. Unfortunately we lost Kira, the smallest pup, on January 23rd. But Hank and T.J. have made a complete recovery and are happy and healthy puppies! They are busy being spoiled by their foster mom! The pups survived because they were given Tamiflu, a very expensive medication. Their total vet bills for the Parvo treatment was almost $150. If you can help, you will have two very thankful puppies!

CongRATulations to the Davis family!
Haydn’s story is a sad one. She was severely burned by her former owner and sustained third-degree burns over 30% of her back and side. Unfortunately, she received minimal medical care until recently, when she made it to ResQ. Currently, Haydn is on antibiotics, pain medication and Silvadene burn cream. She has also started cold laser therapy to heal the last open wound. Haydn, only about 2 years old, will need significant medical care for a while, including a possible wound revision surgery to help with the tightness the scars have caused since she has difficulty bending one of her rear legs. She may also need hydrotherapy to help with the strength in that leg. She is leery of new things, but we can see a very playful girl (at least, as playful as she can get with a cone on her head!) and believe that she has an incredible and joyful spirit inside her. Haydn is not yet available for adoption, but we’ll keep you posted here! Please see more pictures of Haydn, but be forewarned, they are a teensy bit graphic.
Additional sponsor information: Haydn had her first cold laser treatment on Saturday, January 2nd and will be heading to the vet 3 times a week for a bit. It costs about $20 a session (at rescue rate). They gave another refill of her Silvadene cream. They are going to look at her on Thursday, January 7th, for a possible wound resection of the surrounding scars. We will know more about further costs for her care after that.

Joy

*Joy is being fostered in Fairfield.*
Joy’s mom, Lady, is a Rat Terrier but dad, not so much. We think Joy’s a Rat Terrier/Blue Heeler mix. We also just think she’s cute and cuddly. She was born on December 7, 2009. Joy is a follower but loves to instigate Rat runs and tug-of-war challenges. She loves running around the yard, and enjoyed playing and plowing through the snow when she was in Texas. She is doing well with potty training. Joy is a champion snuggler and loves to give kisses. You must see more pics of this girl!
Additional sponsor information: Joy and her siblings, Rudy and Noel, were flown to California from Texas and that cost quite a mint, if you could imagine. They needed to go to be moved into new foster homes due to some difficult circumstances in their previous foster homes. In addition to the flight costs, all the 3 puppies and momma dog had mange. They were all treated and are now fine. California veterinary costs are much higher than in Texas, which includes pediatric spay/neuter surgery. All in all, the total costs for these 3 puppies will be well over $1000 above our normal costs for foster dogs. If you have any change to spare, these cute pups will surely give you a cute little head tilt!

Isn’t Rudy the cutest? He is a 12 week old Rat Terrier mix (born December 7, 2009). We say mix because we know his mom was a Rat Terrier but we can only guess that daddy was an ACD/Blue Heeler. Rudy is about 11lbs with the most gorgeous green eyes you’ll ever see. Rudy is a smart pup! He has learned to sit and learning his house training manners quickly. As long as he is kept on a schedule and taken out often he does well. He knows what he has to do when we go outside. He is crate trained and will mostly sleep through the night. Every once in a while he will need to go outside to do his business. Just like most puppies, Rudy is playful and curious; unlike most puppies, he listens well. Rudy would be fine with cats and kids and other dogs. You have to see more pictures of this breathtaking boy!

*Noel is being fostered in Sonora.*
Noel’s mom, Lady, is a Rat Terrier. And going by Noel’s looks, it’s possible her dad was a Dachshund, but she is not short-legged. Noel was born Dec 7, 2009 in a Texas shelter. Right now she is about 10.5″ tall and is just under 10 lbs. Noel has been in her current foster home for three weeks with three other dogs and a cat and there are no problems with any of them. She does bark at the cat sometimes, but never tries to chase. She plays with whatever dog is willing (and tries to play with the ones that aren’t!). Noel has the most fabulous personality. She is happy and outgoing, her tail NEVER stops wagging. She is not fearful and shows no aggression. One of the older dogs does not like to be bothered, but she pays no attention when he growls at her. She has happily greeted any visitors to the house, which are mostly teenage boys. She is playful, but also affectionate. Loves her toys and also to take a snooze in a lap. Noel does not chew excessively – no destroying of shoes or mouthing human hands. She is making progress on house training and trying to learn to like her crate. She has learned some basic training and seems to catch on easily. Her personality suggests she would be happy in any family situation, though we have not seen her around young children yet. She has a healthy appetite and is not a picky eater. Please see more pictures of this gorgeous girl!

Casey is a wonderful young man, 11 months old and about 10 lbs. His legs are a little shorter than average but that doesn't hold him down any. Casey loves to play with bones or chew toys and play chase... [
