Hi! My name is Abby. I’m not exactly sure when my birthday is, but I know that I’ll be a year old around Valentine’s Day. I ended up in a shelter, and when no one came looking for me, I became a Rat Terrier ResQ dog. That was my lucky day! I weigh about 11 lbs, and I’m a really good girl. I am crate trained and completely housebroken. They tell me I have “apricot” ears, whatever that means. My foster mom tells me I am beautiful, so maybe that’s what it is. I love to play with toys and other dogs. When I first meet another dog, I like to let them know who’s boss, because a little bitty girl like me has to make sure not to let the other dogs try to bully me. Once they get the message, I like to play and wrestle with them. I also love to sit as close to you as you will let me. If you let me sit on your head, I probably would, if I could figure out how to balance. My foster mom says I haven’t learned the concept of personal space and I’m lucky I’m so cute. I love kids and don’t mind cats. Cats are fun to chase, but apparently, I’m not supposed to do that. (At least that’s what they tell me.) Cricket is a happy little (5 lbs.) dog who will bring you a great deal of pleasure. She was initially shy and fearful. As she gained strength and confidence she has turned into quite a charmer who is very interested in her new world. She runs and plays and does silly little things to entertain her foster family. Cricket loves to go for car rides in the truck! So far she is content being carried around tucked into warm coats. And she is supremely content snuggled up to somebody watching the TV or an old movie on DVD. She plays with the other dogs, and seems to best like the game of chase. She puts in enthusiastic time on her chew-toys, but is not destructive to people things. Cricket seems ignorant of the basic requests like “sit” and “come”, but is a bright and eager student. She learned her name quickly. She is polite, is crate trianed, and has good house manners, and is about 2 years old. Is Cricket the girl for you? Check out more pictures of Cricket.

Dayzee would have a very sad story to tell, if she could talk. Her owner gave her away, “free to good home.” The rest of the story we have pieced together from volunteers who helped her. While the former owner was at work, Dayzee was left in a crate on her doorstep in the middle of a winter storm. She had obviously given birth to puppies, because she was full of milk, but the puppies were nowhere to be found. Poor Dayzee was not only frantic, she was skin and bones and extremely ill. When she was discovered on the doorstep, the former owner immediately took her to the shelter, where she had dumped another dog earlier. A kind volunteer stepped in and took Dayzee to the vet, and got her to one of our ResQ volunteers. Dayzee is about 5 years old, and is as sweet as they come. She is doing very well, and has gained back to a very healthy 12 pounds. She has learned to trust humans again, and is very happy in her foster home. She is a lap dog who loves to sit in your lap and keep you company. She gets along with the other 9 dogs in her foster home, and likes men and women equally well. Dayzee loves to sleep with her human, but she is also crate trained. She is housebroken with a doggie door. We believe that Dayzee is the mother of another ResQ dog, Weezie. Weezie came from the same household, and there is obviously a relationship between these two sweet girls. Dayzee should be ready for adoption as soon as she is in tip-top shape. Weezie lost her home when her human mom and dad divorced, and she had no where to go but the shelter. Because she was so terrified and confused at the shelter, she had stopped eating. A caring shelter volunteer asked ResQ to take her. Weezie is four years old, and weighs about 10 or 11 pounds. Weezie has her full tail, tipped ears, and according to the shelter volunteer, who was her temporary foster home, is good with children. Weezie is housebroken with a doggie door, and is getting along with all of the dogs in her ResQ foster home. She loves to chase birds in the backyard, and once she gets comfortable, her true personality shines. She’s a great little dog! But it will take her about a week to adjust to any change in environment. Weezie needs someone who would enjoy a true lap buddy. She loves being held and snuggles up tight to her fostermom. Weezie thinks burrowing under the covers at night is the best thing in the world! She walks wonderfully on a leash, and is a good car rider! (although she sometimes likes to help drive) She is very quiet and super sweet. Weezie would be a great apartment dog, and would blossom if she could be socialized by her new family, so she could enjoy the big, wide world without fear. We’d like to introduce Pierce! Pierce is being fostered in Bristol, CT. This charming puppy is about 13 weeks old and is a typical fun-loving, playful and affectionate pup. He enjoys sleeping in bed with his foster parents and playing all day long with his foster brother. Pierce is approximately 7 pounds at 13 weeks old. He rides well in the car and is working on his potty and leash training. His foster mom reports that he is doing a great job! She says that if you know his schedule you can get him to go outside every time. Surprisingly, he really loves the snow! He loves to throw caution to the wind and run through the snow, and he will stop and roll around, making puppy snow angels. Too cute! Pierce will go in the crate when asked to, and he has not had any potty accidents when crated. He is young so he would prefer to go out every 4 hours when crated till he is a bit older, and more often when loose in the house. He is a big cuddler and wants to be with his people whenever he can. (He is under the impression that his main job is to keep your lap warm.) Pierce is great with other dogs and would be great with older children, maybe over 6. If you have younger children and live close to his foster home, we would be happy to have your children meet him and see how he interacts with them. He has been great with strangers, but be forewarned: you can expect to get some kisses from this adorable guy!

CongRATulations to the Eddins family!
Joey is a guy with major potential! He may be only 12 lbs, 12 inches at the shoulder and about 2 years old, but he’s got personality, love to give, and a great playful zest for life. After making his way north to New Jersey from a shelter in Miami (with the help of rescue foster parents and other volunteers along the way) he was scared and confused, but quickly learns to trust and climb into your lap for lovin’ with a little gentle, quiet encouragement. Joey has a soft, smooth white coat with black spots and a tail that wags to say he loves you. He has tipped ears which are often one up and one down – making him even more adorable (if that’s possible.) He has long legs for quick leaping into your lap and playing with his buddies. He is curious, inquisitive and lively but he loves curling up in your arms or at your side and snoring along with you as you nap. Joey has made terrific progress in the first two weeks by learning to walk on a leash and potty outside. Joey is no pushover with his foster siblings – he’ll give a soft growl to even a 60 lb pit/lab mix in order to maintain his spot on your lap if he is challenged, but he has learned to share foster mom’s attention with the rest of the gang. If corrected by the alpha in the pack, he falls in line as instructed. He is crate-trained, as well as a polite, quiet passenger in the car. He barks at intruders in his yard or when squirrels taunt him at the window but after the obligatory alert barks to bring it to his human’s attention, he’ll stop when asked. He may look thin in his pictures after his stressful time at the shelter and his journey north but he has a wonderful appetite and will soon gain his winter weight. Have a laugh enjoying his pictures and the videos that range from his first shy days with us to his current playfulness with his foster brother.

Meet Bella, a simply beautiful little girl both inside and out. Bella is a 3 yr old, 11lb Rat Terrier that was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Miami-Dade, FL. Bella has a very sad story to tell. She was thrown over the high fence of the shelter after hours by her owners because she was pregnant. Bella laid there and miscarried her litter. The shelter staff found her the next morning. She was so traumatized she was labeled “unadoptable.” She was very scared and utterly confused. But our volunteer saw the cry for help in her eyes. She was taken into her foster home and given a place to recover and heal both inside and out. Bella has blossomed and grown stronger, and has learned to trust again. She is normally a quiet little girl that enjoys playing with her toys and being where the action is, especially wherever the little human children are, or wherever her foster sisters and brother are. Bella loves car rides and behaves wonderfully in an RV. She is completely housebroken and crate trained. She loves other dogs but watch out for those furry little cats! Bella does great with children of all ages as well as adults. She loves to play with toys! Little Bella walks great on a leash and comes when called. Just give a quick whistle and call her name and she quickly stops and runs back to you. This little girl is full of loyalty, and dedication, and has a lot of love to give. We’d like to introduce Ricky! Ricky is a 1 year old rat terrier being fostered in Wolcott CT. He is the B type rat terrier, with the shorter legs, and is a funny little guy with a great personality. Ricky weighs about 9 pounds. Ricky loves playing with all his foster brothers and sisters and seems to love everyone he meets, after a couple of minutes to get used to them. Once he knows you, he will be playful and affectionate. We don’t know how he is with cats but we could have him cat-scanned if you are interested in adopting him and have cats. Ricky is housebroken and crate trained! He is a good boy, and is good on the leash and likes to ride in the car. He would prefer to be harnessed in the car instead of in a crate, and his favorite place to be is snuggling on the couch with you! Ricky is still puppy-ish and would do great with some obedience classes. He really wants to please you but is not sure how. We would suggest kids over 10 would be best for him. Mick is a lovable 12 year old rat terrier. He was rescued from the Miami animal shelter after being dropped off by his family. He may be a senior dog with one eye missing, but he didn’t deserve to end his life in a concrete cell. He has so much love left to give. He is a huge fan of belly scratches and soft places. He loves just being in his foster parents company. He gets along with most other dogs and is always wagging his tail. Although he gets along fine with his (human) brothers who are 2 and 9 months, he would prefer a quieter home where his naps weren’t interrupted by toddlers. Mick is 100% housetrained, loves long walks, but is not a real big fan of the crate. He would rather snuggle with you. Maybe you can be Mick’s snuggle buddy! Don’t miss out on more photos of Mick.

Adopted! Meet Daisy, a petite and beautiful 4 year-old foster who was rescued from a high-kill shelter in South Florida. She weighs only 11 lbs and is white with black spots. Most pf the spots are on her face in the form of a mask, which is so cute! She also has some spots on her back.
