*****IF YOU ARE INTERESTED in more information about Vesper, please contact his family directly:   email Taylor at Tmpolster@gmail.com.  This is a courtesy listing provided to Vesper’s family by Rat Terrier ResQ, and the dog is not in our system.  We make no assurances or guarantees regarding this dog, we are attempting to help his family find a suitable home.  The information hereafter was provided by his family.

Vesper is a 3.5 year-old male rat terrier who is much loved by his family, but the human baby has become a toddler and there is another human baby on the way.  Vesper is overwhelmed and not adjusting to the changes in his environment.  The family has agreed to seek out a home for him that is better for his temperament and exercise needs.  They do not see dogs as disposable and it is breaking their hearts to consider re-homing him, but his human dad is a front-line medical worker (working long hours) and Vesper’s human mom is overwhelmed as well.

PROS:  Vesper is up-to-date on all vaccines, and records are available.  He is housebroken and likes to go outside often.  He has high exercise needs; would be great for a runner or someone who can take him on adventures.  He is leash trained and crate trained.  The family suggests he has a lot of potential for athletic competitions, such as flyball, agility, or dock dogs.  He knows sitz (sit), platz (lie down), shake and crate.  He will come with lots of gear: leashes, collars, harnesses, beds, and an invisible fence collar if needed, and his favorite toys.  He is affectionate and loves to snuggle.

CONS:    Vesper is NOT good with cats or small children (3 and under).  He can jump fences with ease, so he needs a secure yard with a 6’ fence or supervision while outdoors.  He does love to chase (and catch) squirrels and rabbits, mice and rats.

Vesper weighs around 24 pounds.  He is 3.5 years old.  He can use a doggy door, but with caution, as he jumps fences.  He knocked out his two bottom middle teeth while jumping the fence and had surgery performed by a specialist veterinary dentist.  His smile looks a little goofy now!

Adopted ! Mini

Sex: Female  •   Located in: Virginia   •   Age: Adult

*Adopted ! Mini is being fostered in .*

UPDATE Mini Has Been Adopted!

Mini is looking for a new home.  She was adopted in 2018 from Lucky Dog Rescue in Washington, DC. She is around 4 years old, although exact birth date is unknown. Mini is located in Vienna, VA.  Mini is not acclimating well to their growing family and is having issues with their 2 and-a-half year old son who is an active toddler. Mini has anxiety and does not respond well to loud commotions and running around. The family is expecting another baby in July, and has come to the realization that their household is no longer the right fit for Mini. They are hoping to find her a calmer, loving home before the new baby arrives.

Mini has been loved and well taken care of.  She is up-to-date on vaccinations and vet checkups. Recently they elected to surgically repair a herniated disc that temporarily left her partially paralyzed. She has since made a full recovery. We have also tried anxiety medication and a consultation with a behavioral veterinarian. Ultimately, they believe rehoming is the best path forward for her.

Mini has many positive attributes. She is a huge snuggler who loves to burrow in the covers and keep her owner warm. She also enjoys playing with plush toys and balls and loves spending time outside in the yard, sunbathing or chasing squirrels. She also has an adorable underbite. She would be best suited to a household without small children and other pets. She has had positive interactions with dogs at times, although she can also be quite defensive and reactive, and will clearly communicate her boundaries with a snarl. She is only 10 pounds, after all. She is not aggressive.  She is house trained, and knows basic commands like: sit, down, leave it, and off.

The family writes:  “Please reach out with any questions; we would be happy to explain our situation in more detail and also provide more information about Mini.”  Please address inquiries to
