Lady Bug and her brother recently ended up in a shelter after their elderly owner passed away. From what we know, she was not exposed to any other people or dogs outside of her home. Understandably, Lady Bug likes to take a little extra time getting to know you. But after a few short hours, she warms up and is ready to cuddle up with you in the easy chair. Lady Bug is already housebroken and is learning to walk on a leash. She will do best in a quiet home with a patient family who is willing to help her build trust and continue to come out of her shell. Her world has been turned upside down, and she is learning to adjust. She is between 3 and 4 years old, and weighs just 12 pounds. Lady Bug is crate trained, as well as housebroken. She has never been around children, so we recommend no children under 5. She is fearful of loud noises, and young children would likely frighten her. This sweet girl is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, and has a great prognosis. She should be ready for her new home about the first week in August. *Trixie is being fostered in Wolcott, CT.*
When we visited Trixie in the shelter, she was housed next to the large dogs, and was absolutely terrified. She cowered in the corner of her “cell” and wouldn’t make eye contact. She showed no fear aggression, however. She just wanted outta there! When the leash was slipped over her head, she drug our volunteer to the front door. Trixie is a sweet little button-eared girl that came from a shelter in central Arkansas and weighs about 15 pounds. She is housebroken with a doggie door and has never had an accident in her foster home, even during a rain. She will sleep in a dog bed on the floor, or she will help keep your toes warm if you would like for her to sleep in your bed. She wants very badly to please her people. Trixie loves to fetch and retrieve a ball or toy, and is very loving. She will bark at people who enter the home, but quickly stops when she realizes they are not intruders. She seems to prefer women to men, and is a bit shy with large men she doesn’t know well. We think she would be fine with older children, but very young children who move quickly and are somewhat noisy might frighten her. *Dante is being fostered in Kansas City, MO.*
Dante comes from Odessa, Missouri, where he was brought in to the local animal shelter by the person who found him wandering around outside. Not much is known about his life previously, other than he was microchipped, but no one ever returned the shelter’s calls to claim him. He is currently being fostered in Kansas City, Missouri. Our vets think he is around 7 years old, and he is between 13 and 14 pounds. He appears to be house-trained, since he has only had a few accidents inside, and most were when the environment was still new to him. Because he lives with other boy dogs, they all wear belly bands to prevent any territorial marking. He is extremely good about not marking, even without the belly band. Dante is definitely not a fan of being crated, but he tolerates it. He puts up a very small amount of resistance when it’s time to go into the crate, but once inside, there is typically no crying or barking. He is always crated when his foster parents leave the house, so he is getting used to it. At night he sleeps in the human bed, but he would probably be content to sleep in a dog bed as well. Dante is the epitome of a sweetheart! He is very mild-mannered, but not at all shy or timid. He loves to cuddle on the couch with his foster parents, or with one of his foster brothers, an 8 year-old pug. He gets along well with other dogs, although we have to keep an eye on him during feeding time because he tends to wander over to the other dogs’ food and tries to “share” with them. He has not been around children while in foster care, but nothing indicates he would have issues with them. He walks very well on a leash, and in general is not a pushy dog. We are working on basic commands right now, mainly “sit.” He does a great job of coming to you when you call him. He is not the biggest fan of being picked up and carried around, but he will tolerate it when necessary. In short, Dante is a very loving dog and would be a great companion! *Rascal is being fostered in Mastic Beach, New York.*
Let me introduce you to…. Rascal! Approximately, 2 1/2 yrs old, 25lbs and 14” tall at the shoulder, he is a smart and handsome character. He is completely housebroken and crate trained and LOVES toys. In fact, he is a toy hog and wants anything someone else is playing with at all times. He takes all the toys out of the basket every day to play and has them strewn about for when the moment strikes him. He will bring toys to you to play tug o’ war and loves to play catch with the tennis ball, but fetching needs work since there is much competition among his foster fur siblings. We are working on Frisbee now. He is allowed to be loose indoors when no one is home or at night and has not been destructive to anything in the house. Rascal will sleep at the foot of the bed quietly all night long but doesn’t seem to like to be under the covers as the others do. He has taken to behavior corrections well and has truly blossomed in foster care. Rascal will bark at all strangers and does have some fear anxiety around people he doesn’t know very well, however, he has a sense of children and fragile adults and treats them appropriately. He has gotten compliments from visitors saying how much his greeting has been toned down. He would be fine with children over age 5, but his playful attitude might be too much for a human toddler. Rascal is living with several smaller rat terriers and two 70lb labra doodles who want nothing to do with him but he tries to get them to play constantly! He is defensive among his fur siblings and will wrestle the 10lb alpha female of the house gently. Rascal has a cute under bite which makes him look like a meanie, (or Elvis) and his soulful eyes look deeply into yours when he’s paying attention. Rascal doesn’t dig to get out of the yard and has never tried to run out the front door. He just wants to be by your side. Rascal does well in a car, walks nicely on a leash, takes treats ever so gently and LOVES ice cubes! After a long hard day of play, he settles down to let you know he’s tired and ready for bed, usually by 10pm and doesn’t want to wake too early… but by 8am or so, he is looking to go out to do his business. If you have an icemaker, an open heart and love the terrier ‘tude, then this dude is for you! This winter is his second in foster care and all he wants for Christmas is a furever home of his own. Rascal is UTD on all shots, neutered and on heartworm prevention. Apply to adopt him today and he’ll pack up his toys to come home.

*Tommy Boy is being fostered in El Dorado, AR.*
With a bit of a rough past, Tommy Boy is proving himself to be a loving companion. Originally picked up by animal control, Tommy Boy spent 9 months with an all-breed group where he waited in a kennel for an adoption that never came. He caught the eye of a ResQ volunteer, so we took him in to give him a chance at his forever home. He is Teddy, or a B rat terrier, so he has short legs. He is about 12 pounds and probably about 7 years old. His teeth were in very bad shape and several small front teeth had to be removed because they were loose. Tommy is working on his trust issues. He seems to like all people he meets, even curling up for a nap with them, but he does not like being picked up and hugged. He is also working on letting you handle his feet. Because of this, we feel he would be best in a home with adults or teens who understand his limits. He is housebroken, knows the dog door and really enjoys sleeping on his foster dad’s bed when he lets him, though he is completely comfortable in his crate as well. He gets along wonderfully with the other dogs in the home and plays most often by himself. His favorite thing is sitting with his person and just hanging out.
